We studied typography in motion to try and understand the relationship between kinetics and written information. The thesis was originially that our world is in a constant change of movement, transformatino and change – but most of our designs are visualized in very static and strict design environments. The process today offer efficiency and precision – but what about real world performance?
When viewing typography through a functional perspective, we quickly realized that typography is very fragile and much of its functionality is lost concerningly quickly when under the effect of various motions. Immediately there were insights ot be gathered, and we understood that there are things you can do in order to increase motion performance in type. For instance, the relationship between high velocities, stem width and kerning appeared very constant.
